Best Chicken Wings in Cebu: Here’s Why a #WingWar in Cebu isn’t Likely to Happen

There will never be such a thing as a chicken wing war in Cebu. This is my realization after wolfing down on a platter of chicken wings from yet another newly opened chicken wing establishment. In the past year alone, there has been an immense growth of such establishments in the city. Unlike the recent #lechonwar, these establishments are not in for the kill.

True– these establishments may offer similar flavors and promotions (unlimited wings, anyone?). But each of the chicken wing places in Cebu has its own edge over the other. This is what makes it different from lechon, whose taste can only go so far.

Apart from varying flavors, these chicken wing restaurants have something different to offer; which is why it’s hard to identify who has the best chicken wings in Cebu.

Here is my rundown on the different chicken wing places in Cebu and what makes them stand out:

21 Dubs Flavored Chicken Wings

I first got to try 21 Dubs Flavored Chicken Wings when they had a stall at Sugbo Mercado IT Park. After that, we went to their location at Maria Cristina Arcade. It turns out that the space they were renting was quite small and fit for students to hang out in.

What makes them different: They have a total of 21 different flavors to choose from, hence the name.
How much: P120 for a platter (10 pieces)
Thumbs up: Both the wings and the sauce are flavorful! They don’t skimp on the sauce.
Thumbs down: It takes a while to serve. But if you’re not in a hurry, they’re definitely worth a visit.
Bestseller: Garlic Parmesan, House BBQ, Honey Garlic, Buffalo

Bad Boys Wingz

Bad Boys Wingz is among the first three establishments in Cebu to make a brand out of its chicken wing business. Although they now serve other dishes, their main product is their wings. The hole-in-the-wall started in Talamban but moved to a nearer location to the city.

What makes them different: They have focused on their branding and are pioneers of the industrial theme. They also offer other dishes like ribs, shrimp, pasta, and burgers. Their chicken wings come in 9 flavors: Plain Old Wings, Garlic Parmesan, Lemon Pepper, Teriyaki, Honey BBQ, Sriracha Honey, Mild Buffalo, Angry Buffalo, and Suicide.
How much: P169 (6 pieces), P320 (12 pieces), P430 (16 pieces)
Thumbs up: The sauce is tasty! Large dining area that can accommodate 30-40 people. They have delivery through FoodPanda.
Thumbs down: Pricey, the wing pieces are small.

Burrow Lounge

Burrow Lounge is one of the earliest restaurants to offer wings in Cebu. They started offering unlimited wings in their branch in Tsai Hotel, Lahug. Because of their unli wings promo, they were able to attract the young clientele. To date, they have opened a second branch at Parkmall, Mandaue.

Gibbs’ Hot Wings

Gibbs’ Hot Wings is among the most popular names people turn to when it comes to chicken wings in Cebu. It’s been around since the first year the chicken wing trend started back in 2014, which is why they are #CebusFirst. The restaurant started as a small hole-in-the-wall establishment built in the garage of the owner’s home. After realizing the need to expand his business, the owner decided to take a risk and open a larger branch. Until today, Gibbs’ Hot Wings is the most sought after establishment at Streetscape. And it is definitely for good reason.

What makes them different: Their wings are tasty. The spicy variant comes in five levels. The Angel Wings are a must! They also regularly introduce new flavors
How much: Price varies
Thumbs up: Each wing is completely coated in sauce. They have their own delivery.
Thumbs down: Takes a while to cook the wings, especially on peak hours. But it’s worth it.

KauKau Fusion Resto

To be honest, I haven’t tried KauKau Fusion Resto even though it’s very near our house. We literally pass by this restaurant everyday on our way to and from work. I happened upon their poster along the road that they were offering unlimited chicken wings. Upon further research, I discovered that the unli wings was an offer limited until March 2017 so it’s not available all the time.

What makes them different: Their flavors include Classic, Spicy Buffalo, Teriyaki, Salt and Pepper, and the Parmesan Wings.

Pakû by Chef Binux is one of the newest chicken wings places in Cebu. They also offer unlimited chicken wings for only P199. They offer a total of 8 flavors with their chicken wings, namely: BBQ, Teriyaki, Hot and Spicy, Lemon Pepper, Sweet & Spicy, Cream Cheese, Honey Caramel, and Mango Wasabi.

What makes them different: The chicken meat is not dry. For an unlimited wing place, they have lots of flavors to choose from.

Thumbs up: Not too many people eat there yet (since they’re new) so there’s no crowd of diners.
Thumbs down: There’s no way to tell the flavors apart since they’re all served on the same plate.

Southside Chicken Wings

Just like many of the new generation restaurants in Cebu, Southside Chicken Wings is an establishment that started at their own garage. I was able to visit the hole-in-the-wall restaurant last weekend and was pretty amazed at how low-key and unassuming the restaurant was. Despite having a location that’s a bit difficult to find, there was a frequent stream of people entering the gate; proof that there’s really something special about this place.

What makes them different: They have unique flavors that no other chicken wing place in Cebu offers
How much: P129-159
Thumbs up: The chicken is straight delicious and flavorful!
Thumbs down: Location is not easy to find.
Bestseller: Cajun Glaze, Chili Garlic Wings, Inferno! Wings

Sure Thing Chicken Wing

Compared with all the chicken wing places in Cebu, Sure Thing Chicken Wing is the only one that serves puso (hanging rice) with their chicken. Everyone else serves their chicken wings with a cup of plain rice. This establishment is also student priced since it’s near a number of colleges in Cebu.

sure thing chicken wing gangnam honey glazed

What makes them different: They serve puso and they’re affordable.
How much: P99 (for 4 pieces), P179 (for 8 pieces), P259 (for 12 pieces)
Thumbs up: They only have four flavors to choose from. Chicken wings and puso is a great combination!
Thumbs down: Since there’s no exhaust fan in the restaurant, your eyes might get watery because of the smoke from the fryer. **Update: They have an exhaust but it’s being maintained.
Bestseller: Honey Glazed and Gangnam

So if you’re looking for the best chicken wings in Cebu, it’s truly a matter of preference– how much your budget is, how hungry you are, and what flavor you enjoy best. Since none of these establishments offer the same thing, you’ll always be able to find that one has an edge over the other. This is why I think a #wingwar in Cebu isn’t likely to happen, at least not with these establishments.

Chicken here, chicken there, chicken everywhere! I tried burrow lounge’s chicken wings and I would never forget my first experience. One bracket of my braces was detached causing me to rush to my dentist huhuhu

Sorry but KauKau was awful. I went inside and saw they had free wifi. I asked the waiter about it and he said no wifi sir.

Ok, can I get unlimited wings and service water? No service water sir. I ask how come, there is a big jug of water at the next table to me and he justs shrugs and says I don’t know.

Ok fine so I ate the wings. The wings were just simple fried wings that tasted too oily with some thick nasty sauce on top. Although I had unlimited wings, I ate two wings and left.

Kudos for coming up with this comprehensive list. Didn’t know we have this much chicken wing restos in the city. So far, I’ve only tried Burrows and Bad Boys Wingz. And between the two of them, I’d give my thumbs up to the former for the overall chicken wing experience. Plus, you can pretty much get your money’s worth with Burrows.

I am a fan of chicken wings! I only tried Burrow, KauKau, and Gibbs.

Don’t go to Gibbs if you’re not a fan of spicy stuff. The Burrow Lounge in Lahug has since expanded but can still get full easily. You failed to mention that Burrow serves drumsticks already. Hehe.

I personally like Burrow because of the aggressive pricing. 🙂 It also helps their chicken is good!

As a big fan of wings, I’m proud to say that I’ve tried all of the places from this list! As I happen to be a huge fan of spicy food, I’ve also tried out Bad Boys’ Suicide and Gibbs’ Level 5. Both are pretty good, each having their varying perks. And even though those are my favorite ones by far, I have to give a special mention to KauKau’s parmesan wings! I don’t really know if any other place offers that kind of wings but I really dig their version of it!
